Ever Try Explaining SEO to Someone Who Has Never Heard of it?
I have worked in the SEO industry for 7 years this coming February. To this day there is not a soul I try to explain my job description to that gets it right away. If I told you I was a brick layer, you would know I laid bricks. If I told you I work at Dunkin Donuts, behind the counter you may ask for a deal if you were close enough. Point is that working in SEO is not the easiest to get across to people.
What is SEO stand for? Search Engine Optimization.
- Oh, you work on Google or Yahoo?
- No, we try to help company websites get some love from the search engines like Yahoo, Google and others. When you search for safety glasses we are looking to have our client that sells safety glasses be at the top of the list you initially see when searching on Yahoo, Google or Bing. There are the sponsored ads/listings you see and then there are the natural listings below those.
I had someone swear he knew what Search Engine Optimization was. He totally spaced out on “Search Engine” and swore I optimized networks and different types of databases. At some point I agreed all the way and got out of there.
Some may read this and think, “What kind of people is he dealing with?” Unless you have something scripted and ready for the Average Joe most just don’t get it.
I will say,
Have you ever used Google or Yahoo to search for something using their search bar?
Most say “Yes” and I ask them about the list they see after submitting their search. I mention how we try and get our clients to the top of the list you see so that hopefully you click on their website before the competition. When they ask about what exactly I do I change the conversation and move along.
If you work in the industry and explained SEO perfect enough the 1st time they had no questions for you, you are the best. I would say that they got bored and wanted to get out of there but who am I to judge. Get in touch with me if you have your own version of events maybe at a bar trying to explain SEO to somebody.
For those wondering… I handle link popularity duties for dozens of websites in various industries. I am also webmaster, and developer for countless SEO client websites. I develop blogs, set up all major shopping cart, ecommerce, CMS and blog platforms. The list goes on. You know how it is.
Being I am in the industry I have this website and a few others For the Little Guy. Money is tight for many. Links still play a major role in the way websites are listed. (my opinion) Why not get some good links from websites optimized to help, not hinder your placement. Explaining SEO to just anybody is not the coolest. Helping webmasters and website owners attain quality links for useful keywords is.

Tree Service North Haven
Hello people. Tony here writing about a company I know of locally. I have actually written about Woody and Stumpbuster LLC. before. I can’t recall if it was here or another blog. Whatever the case there is some news to get out there about Woody and his Hamden tree service company.
What is the news you ask?
Check out Stumpbuster.com…. now check out Stumpbusterllc.com…. see the difference? They hope so. Woody took some advice from me and had someone put together a new website for him using resources I introduced him to. Working on coming up in local search isn’t hard if your not in places like Los Angeles, Chicago or New York. Being in North Haven, Stumpbuster LLC the company is all over the search engines for all kinds of local town terms.
The other website doesn’t get people to the contact page. The new sites gives it to you right away upon entering the site. Images could be changed but overall the navigation and page structure isn’t bad. The look and feel is clean, the beavers are cool to look at and I am sure easy on the eyes when regular people visit the site. (I am no longer a ‘regular’ researching on the internet daily)
Woody and company has many years experience covering the communities of Hamden, North Haven, Wallingford and Cheshire Connecticut with tree services such as stump grinding, yard leveling, healthy re-grasssing, low impact tree removal and other tree service options. Appropriate tree care is a necessity among those that care how their yard looks and how the trees should be safe for who live in and visit the house.
When looking for the right way to get your yard up to par with your thoughts in North Haven and surrounding communities maybe check out Stumpbuster LLC. Woody is a good dude, willing to listen and come out to see you. Free estimates are the norm for him and I know he would love to work for you. His crew believes in him and loves what they do. You are sure to receive the best service and one of a kind results.
